WANDERN {verb} – [German] to walk (for recreation); to ramble; to hike; to wander; to roam
Hey, friends! I’m Chris (or Christine).
Germany has so many wonderful and beautiful places to visit, that I want to share them all with you! I’ve lived here for seven years and haven’t gotten close to crossing off everything on my Germany Bucket List. With thousands of kilometers of biking and hiking trails, Germany can be discovered uniquely through active exploration, and I’m here to show you how to do it! More on that on About this Blog.
About me: I’m a travel-loving math teacher based in Berlin. After growing up in New Jersey (and hardly ever venturing outside of the state), I had my first international adventure to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji when I was 16. Perhaps it had previously been dormant, but after this trip it was clear that I had a terrible case of wanderlust, most likely never to be cured.
I’m an outdoorsy, backpacking, bikepacking adventurer who loves climbing, kayaking, camping, and hiking (and most important – TRAVELING!). The majority of my adventures have been state-side and European, but I’m looking forward to going out and exploring more of our great wide world. Everywhere is on my list. And I believe everywhere has something worthy of seeing, learning, and experiencing.
Having lived in Germany for seven years and become quite fluent in the language, I’ve become very knowledgeable about traveling around meine neue Heimat (my new home). The extensive transportation system in Germany makes it super easy to get out on the weekends – be it to hike a new trail or explore a new village. I take every opportunity I can to explore this beautiful, rich, and diverse country and I still haven’t come close to crossing everything off my list after 5 years!
“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you did do than by the things you did not do. So throw of the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
– H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
I hope my passion for Deutschland, traveling, the outdoors, and new things excites you to explore some of it yourself. Whether you already travel, are looking to travel, or want to vicariously travel through me I hope you find my posts to be interesting, entertaining, and informative. I look forward to sharing my experiences, answering your questions, and seeing your comments.
